Correia Experiences Racism from UBP Partisans
When it comes to politics, some white Bermudians are still unable to look beyond race. That's what Jane Correia has experienced on the doorstep. She has found that whites won't even consider voting for the PLP - not because of the quality of our candidates or because of the issues - but because of race.

Jane's said that she's had some "horrible experiences" and that she's "ashamed that there are white people in this day and age that would even think and behave in this manner." She called some of the comments she's received "extremely hurtful" and she said that what she finds most sad is that some white Bermudians "are not even willing to open their minds."
It's a real shame that this kind of closed mindedness still exists across Bermuda. And, it's these kinds of racist attitudes that the PLP is working to combat with the Big Conversation and policies designed to ensure that all qualified Bermudians have access to the best jobs on the island.
The fact of the matter is that racism is alive and well in Bermuda. When you have good people like Jane Correia shunned by white people for her politics - you know something is deeply wrong.
What's even scarier is that many of these racists are ardent UBP supporters and they constitute an important base of political support for their party. If the UBP is put back into power, people who hold these racist attitudes will be emboldened and they will have far more power than they do under the PLP.
We don't need to turn the clock back. We need to continue moving Bermuda forward.
