The Real Face of the UBP Exposed

The response to the vile and racist cartoon posted on a popular web forum is shocking and exposes the real face of hardcore UBP partisans.

One person wrote:

...forgive me if my eyes are deceiving me, isn't it merely a caricature of a pimp?

They're deceiving you, sir. This image perpetuates a racist stereotype about black people. If you can't see that, you should get your eyes checked.

Another:

Out of all the borderline racial stuff that good ol' Sal posts...this one seems rather innocuous to me...

Innocuous? There's nothing innocuous about this kind of vile stereotype.

A third:

I'm not sure how you extract that particular point, but I do agree with Mysty that, given the sheer number of offensive and borderline racist posts that Sal's made on various Bermuda-related sites, this seems to be a rather odd one to hold up as an example of racism. The cartoon is a caricature of a pimp

Just because this commenter has been more racist in the past, should we applaud him for being, in your perspective, less racist now? That's ridiculous.

There's an article in today's paper that talks about how the UBP are reviewing a new report for why they aren't receiving more support from Bermudians.

They don't need a report. The answer is simple. If a majority of the UBP's hardcore partisans don't think that this cartoon is racist and offensive, there is a crystal clear disconnect between UBP partisans and many Bermudians.

We've heard from the party loyalists. They don't think there's a problem with the image. Now, it's the UBP leadership's turn. What say you, Mr. Swan, Mr. Simons, Mr. Dunkley and Mr. Barritt? Do you think this cartoon is "innocuous" and "merely a caricature of a pimp?" Or do you think that it is a vile, racist and stereotypical caricature that should have no place in our society?
