UBP Breaks Code of Conduct

Less than 72 hours after Michael Dunkley declared that the UBP would "keep this election focused on issues and ideas to improve people's lives," the UBP launched the first attack ad of this campaign.

In a radio ad paid for by the UBP, they falsely insinuate that PLP leaders are "sitting pretty in a big house" after rhetorically asking listeners if they own their own house. On their website, the attack ad is even titled "PLP's False Promises."

Party Chairman David Burt responded, saying "it's telling that less than 72 hours after Michael Dunkley declared that his party would, and I quote, "keep the focus on plans for people" and "not get bogged down in the gutter," that he and his party would sponsor the first attack ad of the campaign. It seems to me that the real 'false promise' made was the one made by Michael Dunkley and the UBP candidates when they falsely promised to run a clean campaign."

The truth is, the PLP is committed to delivering high quality affordable housing for all Bermudians. Today, we released a progress report that highlights new, high quality affordable housing the PLP has delivered and continues to deliver. Our efforts to provide affordable housing to all have benefited over 800 Bermudians and over 300 Bermudian families to date. The PLP has introduce geared to income rent for all BHC tenants allowing individuals living in government-owned housing to have their rent set at no more than 25% of their income and an additional 10% in mandatory savings towards future home owners hip.

We also have more innovative plans for increasing home ownership. As we outlined in the throne speech, the PLP is committed to providing 500 interest-free down payment loans for Bermudian families.

Bermudians can contrast the PLP's performance against the endless litany of promises from the UBP. We're confident that on December 18th the people won't be fooled into buying the false promises of the UBP and will reward our performance with a third straight term in Government.
