Building on a Legacy of Service in Sandys North: A Commitment to Our Community

Statement from the Progressive Labour Party

As we reflect on the dedicated service of the outgoing Member of Parliament for Sandys North, Constituency 36, Mrs. Kathy Lynn Simmons, the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) Branch Executive for this area takes immense pride in the substantial contributions we've made to our community. Together, we've tackled pressing issues, supported our seniors and youth, and fostered a strong sense of unity and compassion within our constituency.

Representing this community is not just a responsibility but a profound honour. Over the years, we have been privileged to work alongside esteemed MPs such as the late, great Mr. Eugene Cox, Mr. Lionel Simmons, Mr. Dennis Lister, Mr. Michael Scott, and, most recently, Mrs. Kathy Lynn Simmons. Each of these leaders was deeply engaged with our community, providing the leadership and passion that continues to drive our team today. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these distinguished individuals and to the many workers behind the scenes who have tirelessly served our country, community, and Party over the decades.

Since 2020, our community-focused initiatives have been diverse and impactful. From organizing a memorable bus ride to St. George’s for our seniors to a festive Christmas drive-around that spread joy throughout our area, we have been active and engaged. We’ve addressed critical infrastructure needs, such as resolving drainage issues at Cambridge, repairing homes on the one-way street, installing streetlights on Boaz Island, and paving the road over Watford Bridge.

Our unwavering commitment to the well-being of our youth has been a cornerstone of our work. We have distributed Easter bags to students at Somerset Primary School, hosted a Back-to-School Party at the Youth Centre, and supported the Anchor Boys’ Back-to-School event. Additionally, we’ve provided ongoing assistance to families in need, organized post-COVID food drives, and held community clinics to ensure that health and wellness services are accessible to all.

We have also recognized the invaluable contributions of our community’s caregivers, hosting a special ‘Thank You’ lunch for the staff at Lefroy House. In times of loss, we have stood by families affected by tragedy, offering our support and solidarity.

As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building on this legacy of service. Our community deserves leadership that is compassionate, responsive, and dedicated to improving the lives of all its residents. Together, we will continue to make Sandys North a beacon of strength and unity.
