Meet Alexa

Alexa Lightbourne is a servant leader, strategic consultant, policy advisor, and project manager whose diverse experiences and accomplishments embody her passion for public service and community empowerment. With a proven ability to deliver impactful results both locally and internationally, Alexa is dedicated to advancing Bermuda through innovation, sustainability, and inclusive governance.

Current Leadership Roles

As the Head of Operations and Strategy and Chief of Staff to the Premier of Bermuda, Alexa drives key governmental initiatives, ensuring operational excellence and strategic alignment across ministries. She leads cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency, compliance, and transparency in government operations.

Previously, she held the position of Management Services Partner for the Department of Employee and Organizational Development within the Bermuda Government. Alexa excels in identifying the root causes of problems and developing implementable improvements. 

Alexa previously served as Government Consultant to Bermuda’s Deputy Premier and the Ministry of Home Affairs, where she supported transformative programs such as the LED light bulb exchange, solar rebate programme, and the Government Future Energy Strategy. 

She is also the PTA President at her daughter’s school and treasurer of the Smith’s Parish Council. Alexa serves as the Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus and previously held the role of Public Relations Officer for the Progressive Labour Party (PLP). 

Alexa is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. (DST) and serves as the chair of the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter Social Action committee and also serves on the DST International Regional Committee for Program Planning and Development in support of enhanced policies and program enhancement. Alexa has a deep commitment to fostering grassroots engagement and lifelong service to people. 

Previous Experience

Alexa brings extensive international political experience, having worked on successful general election campaigns in Antigua, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Grenada. She also contributed to Barack Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign as an Organizer for Organizing for America.

In Bermuda, she served as the Campaign Manager for the PLP’s 2017 and 2020 general election, where she led operations and executed winning strategies that propelled the party to a historic victory.

Her private-sector experience includes roles as a Consulting Analyst at Deloitte, focusing on capital project management and business process improvement, and as a Advisory Consultant at Estera, specializing in regulatory compliance. Additionally, she worked as a Policy Analyst for Bermuda’s Ministry of Health, where she supported the implementation of groundbreaking healthcare initiatives such as HIP and Future Care.

Community and Personal Accomplishments

Alexa’s dedication to community service has been a lifelong endeavor. She was previously head girl of the Berkeley Institute, crowned Miss Teen Bermuda 2007 and placed third in Miss Teen International, using her platform to stage a charity concert benefiting The Sunshine League. She has been honored as AME Youth of the Year and won the Hal Jackson Talented Teen Pageant in 2005.

Educational and Professional Credentials

Alexa holds an LL.B. Laws degree from the University of Westminster and a Foundation degree in Politics and International Relations from Queen Mary, University of London. Certified in Prince2 Project Management, she possesses the skills to oversee complex projects with precision and excellence.
