Dawn Simmons
- Community Leadership: Served as PTSA President at her son’s schools, Secretary of Somerset Cricket Club, and Chairperson of the Sandys Parish Council.
- Political Involvement: Longtime PLP member, holding roles such as Acting Chairperson, Campaign Chair (2007), and candidate in the 2012 General Election.
- Professional Experience: Worked in government and corporate sectors, including 13 years at XL Capital in Claims, Underwriting, and IT Training; former Executive Officer of the PLP and current Administrative Assistant to the Ageing Well Committee.
- Commitment to Service: Actively involved in church, sports, and civic organizations, including the Bermuda Cricket Board and multiple government boards.
- Education and Training: Educated Locally at West End Primary and the Berkeley Institute. Holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from the Berkeley School (NJ), a Certificate in Front Office Reception from Bermuda College, and attended The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University.
Meet Dawn
Ms. Simmons was educated at West End Primary and received her secondary education at The Berkeley Institute. She then attended the Bermuda College and obtained her Certificate in Front Office Reception in and then travelled overseas to obtain her Associates Degree in Applied Science from the Berkeley School in New Jersey (1982). She also had the opportunity to attend The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University. Ms. Simmons is the proud mother of one son, Glenn.
Professionally, Ms. Simmons has worked at Department of Education, Ministry of Finance and spent 13 years at XL Capital. At XL Capital she worked in various roles in the Claims and Underwriting Department. Her ultimate position was that of an IT Trainer. She also served as the Executive Officer of the Bermuda Progressive Labour and is currently the Administrative Assistant to the Ageing Well Committee.
Ms. Simmons has shown through years of service just how important the community is to her. This is evidenced through membership and participation in numerous community oriented organizations.
She has served as PTSA President at all three institutions of which her son has attended – West End Primary, Sandys Secondary Middle School and The Berkeley Institute. In addition, She currently attends Allen Temple A.M.E Church. She also served as the Secretary of Somerset Cricket Club.
On a national scale, Ms. Simmons has served on various Government Boards. She was the Chairperson of the Public Service Vehicle Licensing Board from 2008-2010, and currently is the Chairperson of the Sandys Parish Council. She also serves as the Secretary of the Bermuda Cricket Board. She served as the Campaign Chair for the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party in the 2007 and was a candidate in the 2012 General Election.
