Government Reaffirms Commitment to Mary Victoria Road, Alexandra Road, and Cedarpark Residents

The Government of Bermuda acknowledges the concerns raised by residents of Mary Victoria Road, Alexandra Road, and Cedarpark and remains committed to addressing the long-standing challenges facing these proud and historic communities.

Recognizing Resident Frustrations

The Government recognizes and shares the frustration felt by many residents who have patiently endured years of “band-aid” solutions and minimal progress. The pledge made during the most recent Throne Speech—to develop a comprehensive master plan for these neighbourhoods—is not just a promise, but a priority.

A Commitment to Action

Minister for the Cabinet Office and MP for Constituency 13, Diallo Rabain, emphasized the Government’s commitment:

“I have heard directly from my constituents, and I understand their frustration. These are proud, hardworking families who deserve better. While there have been delays, I want to be clear: this Government has not forgotten you. We are moving forward, and you will be a part of every step we take. I want to also thank Minister Adams for establishing a direct line of communications with residents to keep them updated on water issues.”

Focusing on Sustainable Solutions

Minister of Public Works, Jache Adams, assured residents of a comprehensive approach:

“My Ministry is committed to completing a detailed plan this year that tackles water, sewage, lighting, and drainage issues head-on. This is not a quick fix, but we are working toward sustainable, long-term, lasting solutions.”

Ensuring Safe and Healthy Housing

Minister of Housing, Zane DeSilva, highlighted the focus on housing conditions:

“Many of the homes in these neighbourhoods fall under my Ministry and are in need of attention. We are currently reviewing the outstanding items and identifying how we can address them swiftly. We will not rest until every family in these communities has the dignity of a safe and healthy living environment.”

Upcoming Town Hall Meeting for Community Engagement

In the coming weeks, the Government will host a Town Hall Meeting for residents of Mary Victoria Road, Alexandra Road, and Cedarpark.

This will be an opportunity for the public to:

  • Review proposed plans.

  • Provide direct feedback.

  • Hold the Government accountable for the work ahead.

The Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that these communities receive the attention and support they deserve.
