Honoring the Legacy of Our Founders

🎉 Celebrating the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party’s Founders’ Day

Today, the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) proudly celebrates Founders’ Day, a time to reflect on the courage, vision, and determination of those who laid the foundation for a fairer, more just Bermuda. 🇧🇲

📅 On February 10, 1963, the PLP was established by a group of trailblazing Bermudians who believed in the power of the people and the necessity of change. We honor our esteemed founders: Walter Robinson, Dilton Cann, Wilfred Allen, Edward DeJean, Albert Peter Smith, Austin Wilson, and Hugh “Ryo” Richardson. Their unwavering commitment to social and economic justice paved the way for generations of Bermudians to live in a more equitable society.

🌟 Reflecting on this historic occasion, Premier and PLP Leader David Burt stated:

“Our founders stood together against injustice, inequality, and the status quo, determined to create a Bermuda where opportunity was not dictated by race or class but by hard work and determination. Today, the Progressive Labour Party continues to uphold their vision, striving to build a fairer Bermuda for all. Through our commitment to raising pensions for our seniors, implementing Bermuda’s first minimum wage, and expanding access to affordable healthcare, we are ensuring that the dreams of our founders are not just remembered, but realized.”

💬 PLP Party Chair Dawn Simmons emphasized the importance of staying true to the Party’s mission:

“The Progressive Labour Party was born out of the struggle for dignity, fairness, and equal rights. More than six decades later, we remain committed to the principles that brought us together in 1963. Our founders understood that real change requires courage, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to the people. That is why, to this day, we continue to fight for policies that uplift working Bermudians, strengthen our communities, and create a more inclusive and prosperous Bermuda.”

🔗 As we commemorate this Founders’ Day, the PLP reaffirms its dedication to the people of Bermuda. The fight for a fairer Bermuda continues, and just as our founders envisioned, we will always stand for social justice, economic opportunity, and a government that works for all. 🌍
