International Youth Day

Statement on Behalf of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party on International Youth Day

On this International Youth Day, The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party proudly recognizes and celebrates the incredible contributions of Bermuda’s young people. Whether in sports, academics, or serving our community, many of our Bermudian youth are thriving, excelling, and representing Bermuda with honour and dignity.

The theme of this year’s International Youth Day, "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development," reminds us of the importance that in today’s Bermuda, access to computers and the internet are a critical part of building a foundation for success with our children.

That’s why getting high-speed internet in every public school, and greater access to laptops and tablets, were a priority for our Government when we first took office. We knew that not every child has all the tools needed to succeed, and wherever we could, we would fill those gaps.

We recognize that while many of our children are thriving, too many are falling through the cracks. That’s why we continue to support the MIRRORS programme, as well as the Gang Violence Reduction Team, for middle to high school students to intervene as early as possible and divert our youth away from gangs and other anti-social behaviour.

We envision a Bermuda where every young person, regardless of background or circumstance, can access quality education, meaningful employment, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. That’s why we’ve launched our National Youth Strategy, with policies and initiatives focused on empowering our youth through education, entrepreneurship, and leadership development, ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary to build successful lives here at home.

The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party will always champion the cause of our youth. We stand with you, inspired by your energy and ideas, and are committed to creating a Bermuda where your dreams can become reality. Together, we will build a future filled with hope, opportunity, and prosperity for all.

Later today, we will join Minister Tinee Furbert on the steps of City Hall in a ceremony commemorating International Youth Day. We encourage you to join us!

Our youth embody the future of Bermuda, carrying with them the potential to drive innovation, foster unity, and create a brighter tomorrow for all. Happy International Youth Day to all our young Bermudians. Your voice, your passion, and your vision are the foundation of our island’s future.
