MEET KIM

On 16th September 2024, Senator the Hon. Kim Ramona Wilkerson, JP was appointed the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. 

Prior to joining the Government of Bermuda, as the Attorney-General, she served as the Senior Vice President and Head of Claims for AXAXL in Bermuda. She also joined XL Group in Bermuda in 2007 and served as General Counsel of XL Insurance (Bermuda) Ltd before transitioning to the Head of Claims role in 2015.

The Attorney-General has more than thirty-five (35) years of experience in the insurance industry, including fifteen (15) years in the brokerage area. In addition to holding the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) designation, she is a barrister and attorney and has been admitted to the Bermuda Bar and the Bar of England and Wales (Gray’s Inn).  She is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. During her career, she has worked in both Bermuda and London where she provided legal services for XL’s Lloyds syndicates.

The Attorney-General is a contributing Author to The Law of Reinsurance in England & Wales” 2nd & 3rd Editions. She has written articles for Bermuda Insurance publications and has spoken at industry events such as RIMS, the Bermuda Captive Conference, Claims Litigation Management Association, Bermuda Healthcare Forum, the BII Market Conferences, the ARIAS Conference, and the American Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Conference.

In September of 2024, the Attorney-General returned to service as a Senator, having previously been appointed in February 2016 when she served as PLP Shadow Minister for Economic Development until the dissolution of Parliament in June 2017. 

The Attorney-General has a wealth of Board experience. She served as the Chair of the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority; as a non-Executive Director of Argus Insurance Group Holdings, chairing its key operating subsidiary, Bermuda Life Insurance Company Ltd and serving as Chair of the People and Compensation Committee; and as a Director of One Communications Ltd.  Internationally, she served as a Director of the Business Insurance Women to Watch Foundation. She also volunteers as Chair of the charity Shift (formerly Parents Resource Institute for Drug Education “PRIDE)”, which provides prevention based social emotional learning programs for Bermuda’s school children. 

The Attorney-General’s Ministerial Portfolio consists of the following departments namely, Ministry of Justice Headquarters, Attorney-General’s Chambers, Court Services, Department of Public Prosecutions, Judicial, and has been expanded recently to include Department of Corrections. 

The Attorney-General is a product of the Bermuda public education system having attended Paget Primary School, the Berkeley Institute and the Bermuda College. Her further tertiary education includes a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (concentrating in Property & Casualty Insurance) from The College of Insurance/St. John’s University School of Risk Management in New York, USA; a Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Buckingham, UK; and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School, London, UK
