PLP Calls for Debate

PLP Calls for a National Debate on Bermuda’s Future

The Progressive Labour Party is today calling for a national debate to discuss the issues facing Bermuda.

We propose a debate with the widest participation – and the most voices possible.

A Debate Format That Reflects Today’s Political Reality

To ensure broad representation, we propose a debate featuring:

🔹 2 Representatives of the Progressive Labour Party
🔹 2 Representatives of the One Bermuda Alliance
🔹 2 Representatives of the Free Democratic Movement
🔹 2 Representatives of the Independents

We call on Bermuda’s media organisations to come together to jointly sponsor and organize the debate.

This multi-person debate format reflects the modern political landscape. It is used successfully in Jamaica and is a standard in university-level debates, such as the World Universities Debating Championships.

A Debate for the People

Today’s reality is very different from previous elections – the community wants to hear a variety of voices speaking about the future of our country and our people.

In this debate, we will highlight how the PLP has worked to build a fairer Bermuda, even during these difficult global times:

✅ Raised senior pensions to keep up with inflation
✅ Lowered payroll taxes for 86% of workers while raising taxes on the wealthy
✅ Expanded childcare support for families
✅ Introduced Bermuda’s first minimum wage
✅ Built or renovated over 70 affordable housing units

Our Plans for the Future

The debate will also allow us to share our vision for Bermuda, including:

🔹 A senior daycare centre for our elderly population
🔹 Primary care visits under HIP for better healthcare access
🔹 Specialist visits under FutureCare to improve senior healthcare
🔹 Lower essential goods prices through a Government-backed co-op

A national debate is an opportunity for the people to hear clear plans and real solutions for Bermuda’s future. We urge all political parties, independents, and the media to join us in making this a reality.
