PLP Response to OBA Doug Decouto’s Press Conference

The OBA’s Pamphlet vs. The PLP’s Real Plan for Bermuda

The OBA’s so-called platform—a thin eight-page pamphlet—is nothing more than a collection of nice-sounding words that conceal their real agenda.

We all remember what OBA candidate Carl Neblett said when asked about their cost of living plan—he admitted he had “no idea” what it was. While Neblett was being honest, Mr. Decouto continues to dodge the truth.

The OBA’s Economic Record: Failure & Broken Promises

The OBA’s track record is clear:

❌ Furlough days that hurt public sector workers
❌ A record deficit that deepened Bermuda’s financial struggles
❌ The bad airport deal—costing tens of millions in revenue guarantees while leasing a critical asset to a Canadian company
❌ The disastrous Morgan’s Point deal—which cost over $200 million
❌ Neglecting public schools while spending hundreds of millions on a boat race for the wealthy
❌ Telling our seniors that money “doesn’t grow on trees” instead of providing support

This is the OBA’s legacy—one of recklessness, mismanagement, and broken promises.

The PLP: Delivering Real Relief for Bermudians

We know these are tough times around the world, with rising costs and inflation impacting everyone. That’s why, in these challenges, the PLP has stood by you and put more money in your pocket:

✅ Reduced taxes for 86% of Bermudians, while increasing taxes on the wealthy
✅ Introduced Bermuda’s first-ever Minimum Wage
✅ Increased childcare income qualifications & raised the childcare grant
✅ Raised senior pensions six times
✅ Built or refurbished over 70 affordable homes—with more on the way

A Real Plan for the Future

We are not stopping there. We have concrete, realistic plans to further reduce the cost of living, including:

🏥 A Senior Daycare Centre to support our aging population
🥕 Support for a Food Coop to lower grocery costs

The OBA’s eight-page pamphlet doesn’t tell you what they really plan to do. But their selection of Michael Fahy—placed in a traditional UBP/OBA safe seat—tells you everything you need to know.

Their real focus isn’t on the cost of living—it’s on bringing back Pathways to Status.

February 18th: Protect Bermuda’s Future

On February 18th, protect our Bermudian status and continue to build a fairer Bermuda.

✅ Vote PLP in every single constituency to ensure a government that works for the many, not the few.

We won’t be fooled by empty words and broken promises. Let’s stand together and keep moving forward.
