The Progressive Labour Party welcomes all who engage in Bermuda’s democratic process, including those who are part of Bermuda’s newest political party, the People’s Independent Coalition.
Before and since the election, we have been working towards a fairer Bermuda for all, while others simply disappeared. We know that true change doesn't come from just words but from consistent, engaged work in our community. We know that true change doesn't come from press releases and highly funded media campaigns. We also know that true change comes when we are true to who we are and what we believe.
That's why the PLP has never had to rebrand, rename or relaunch, while others continue to contort themselves into new entities and run from who they are.
With a shared platform, joint press events, and coordinated messaging, Bermudians saw through the “independents,” knew what they really were and on election day across 36 constituencies refused to buy it. Bermudians should be gratified that PIC has taken a closer step towards being honest about what it has always been behind the scenes: a political party.
Now that they have finally declared what everyone in Bermuda already knew they were, the PLP hopes for support in areas of agreement and constructive debate on issues where our parties may disagree.
Whatever new political alignments may happen in the future, Bermudians can be comforted that the PLP will continue reducing the burden of taxation on workers, providing more affordable housing, and building a fairer Bermuda where everyone can benefit from our island’s prosperity.
