Statement on the Election of Zane DeSilva as PLP Deputy Leader

The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party has elected Zane DeSilva, a long-serving MP and Minister for Housing and Municipalities, as its new Deputy Leader.

Premier and Party Leader David Burt remarked:

“Tonight, Delegates of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party have spoken and selected one of our hardest working Parliamentarians as our Deputy Leader. Zane has been a steadfast supporter of the Progressive Labour Party, and his passion, loyalty, and commitment as Deputy Leader will help drive our Party forward.”

The PLP remains dedicated to protecting Bermudian jobs, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that our economic policies work for the many, not just the privileged few. With Zane DeSilva as Deputy Leader, we will continue our collective work to build a stronger and fairer Bermuda for all.


About Zane DeSilva

Zane DeSilva is a successful local businessman and currently serves as the President & CEO of Island Construction Services, one of the largest and most diverse local companies in Bermuda.

Known throughout the business and sporting communities, Mr. DeSilva’s philanthropic activities have benefited a wide range of local clubs, community organizations, churches, and individuals. He has represented Bermuda in several sporting activities and was a founder of the West End Runners Club, as well as a past president of the Bermuda Snooker Association.

Mr. DeSilva has served in the House of Assembly since 2007, representing Constituency #30 and Constituency #29. His ministerial experience includes roles as:

  • Minister Without Portfolio

  • Minister of Health

  • Minister of Social Development & Sports

  • Minister of Tourism & Transport

  • Minister of Housing and Municipalities (current position)

Deputy Leader DeSilva is married to Mrs. Joanne DeSilva and is the proud father of two children and five grandchildren.
