Women, Children & Families - PLP Accomplishments

  1. Amended laws to allow for a Litigation Guardian to represent children during legal proceedings. 
  2. Introduced legislation to ensure that same-sex couples have the same legal benefits as heterosexual couples. 
  3. Amended the Employment Act to extend the allowance for paid maternity leave to 13 weeks and make allowances for paid paternity leave.
  4. Reviewed the key recommendations from the Joint Select Committee on Women’s Issues.
  5. Extended after-school care at the preschool level and co-joined its services with the Government’s primary after-school programme to assist working parents. 
  6. Passed the Child Safeguarding Bill to enhance protection of children from abuse.
  7. Amended the criminal code to include luring and grooming while in a position of trust for children under the age of 18.
  8. Created the Child Care Standards which educate providers and parents on what is safe and expected in childcare settings to protect children in daycare.
